Pauillac-Château Lafite Rothschild 2012
The domain
First among the first in the history of classified growths in 1855 from Bordeaux, the Château Lafite Rothschild is a lord on his grave lands. Bearer of a long wine-growing tradition initiated in 1620, it has asserted itself over the centuries as a true standard of the appellation. Pauillac on the Left Bank of the region of Bordeaux.
Because great wines are only born in great terroirs, Château Lafite Rothschild benefits from an exceptional location with a vineyard divided into three large areas. From the hillsides that surround the Château to the Carruades plateau to the west and a plot in the neighboring town of Saint-Estèphe, Château Lafite Rothschild oversees a total of 112 ha of vines planted on soils of fine and deep gravel with sand in surface while the limestone subsoil provides excellent drainage.

Tasting: Château Lafite-Rothschild is a Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac often considered as the greatest wine of the appellation. It is born on a mythical terroir which gives it refinement, complexity and a unique aromatic profile. Its blend is mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (80% to 90%), supplemented by Merlot and sometimes Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Plot vinifications precede an aging of 18 to 20 months in new barrels; for the record, the estate has its own cooperage! |
