It is the only estate that was promoted to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1973 by the Ministry of Agriculture. Following this, the estate's motto was changed from "Premier ne puis, second ne daigne, Mouton suis" to "Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change".

In 1922, the young Baron Philippe de Rothschild took over the estate. A pioneer, he decided in 1924 to carry out the bottling entirely on the property, whereas at the time, wine was sold in bulk to various merchants in the Bordeaux area who handled the bottling themselves. He also asked the illustrator Carlu to create a label for his wine.

Format: 75 cl

Country: France

Region: Bordeaux

Farming: conventional agriculture

Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot

Tasting: this is an underrated vintage for Mouton.
