Pauillac - Château Mouton Rothschild 1986 - Magnum

The domain

The castle Mouton-Rothschild is one of the first three classified growths located in the town of Pauillac. It produces one of the most prestigious Bordeaux wines, which bears the same name. It shares this rare distinction with Château Margaux, Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion.

Mouton-Rothschild has been owned by the English branch of the Rothschild family since 1853. It is the only cru that was promoted to the rank of “Premier Grand cru Classé” in 1973 by the Ministry of Agriculture. Following this, the motto of the Castle was changed from "First cannot, second does not deign, Mouton suis" to "First I am, second I was, Mouton ne change".

It was in 1922 that the young Baron Philippe de Rothschild took charge of the Château. A pioneer, he decided in 1924 to carry out the bottling entirely at the property, while at the time the wine was sold in bulk to various merchants in the place of Bordeaux who carried out the bottling themselves. He also asks illustrator Carlu to create a label for his wine.
