Durize sur Gneiss metaPHUSIS - Steve Bettschen 2022
The estate
Nature lover, Steve Bettschen is primarily a great wine connoisseur after eleven years spent at a renowned Swiss wine merchant. Called by the land and production, he bought his first vineyard in 2007.
Surrounded by the best winemakers from the Romandy region, he becomes a winemaker-cellar master and quickly increases his production, also thanks to the purchase of grapes from friendly winemakers.
The range PHUSIS refers to the wines from its own vineyards: Clos du Mormont (La Sarraz / Côtes de l’Orbe / Vaud) – Orny (Côtes de l’Orbe / Vaud) – Sensine (Conthey / Valais). The range metaPHUSIS is made from grapes or wines purchased from respectful winemakers whose work and plots are known to Steve Bettchen.

Grape variety: old grape variety almost abandoned, the Durize still exists in the Fully region (about 7000 m2). It is the result of the crossing between Roussin (itself a descendant of Cornalin from Valais, also called Rouge du Pays) and an unknown grape variety (now probably extinct) and is part of the Oriou family. It therefore has affinities with many Valdostan grape varieties including 'Humagne Rouge.' |
Tasting: thethe color is deep, a beautiful violet cherry. Complex nose enchanting with ripe blackberries, blackcurrant leaf, wax, and licorice. Ample and sustained on the attack, the palate evolves into a powerful, fleshy body, with numerous tight tannins, a bit angular but without austerity. Long finish with an intense licorice note. |
