Saint-Emilion Grand Cru - Château Ausone 2004
The estate
The Château Ausone is one of the emblematic properties of Saint-Emilion. Indeed, it is the only property along with Château Cheval-Blanc to have been classified as a premier grand cru classé A. Its area is only 7 hectares of vineyards planted with 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc. The Château Ausone has an ideal terroir located on the high hillside of Saint-Emilion, on the south/southeast slope. Currently, Alain Vauthier and his daughter Pauline oversee the property's destiny.
Legend has it that the name of this exceptional wine comes from the Roman poet Ausonius who owned vineyards there... In any case, the wines of Château Ausone are a myth, both in terms of their quality and longevity.
