Saint-Julien - Château Lagrange 2016

4The domain

It is within the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation that Château Lagrange is located, 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855… The vineyard of this appellation located on the left bank of the Gironde, in the heart of the Médoc between Margaux and Pauillac, has a remarkable particularity with 85% of its surface belonging to Grands Crus Classés.

Located on two hilltops of Günzian gravel, one of which is the highest point of the AOC Saint Julien, the vines of Château Lagrange extend in one piece around the château. At the heart of the wine estate are added some forty hectares of park and woods, as well as a lake, constituting an exceptional natural heritage. Exceptionally, the area and plots of the vineyard today are exactly those that were classified in 1855 under Napoleon III.

Tasting: Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2016 Lagrange soars out of the glass with notions of candied violets, cassis, underbrush and warm black plums with waves of Black Forest Cake flavors, of cedar trunk and yeast extract. Medium to full-bodied, the bags of fragrant dark fruit are solidly structured with super-ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and layered.
