Pessac-Léognan - Château Les Carmes Haut Brion 2017

The domain

In 1584, Jean de Pontac, Lord of Haut-Brion, donated several acres of meadows and vines to the Carmelite Order. The favour, no doubt, has the taste of predestinations: the members of the congregation in fact take their name from Mount Carmel, literally “vineyard of God”. They will watch over the terroir for nearly two centuries, practicing asceticism and making wine with the same devotion.

Confiscated during the Revolution, the estate was bought by Léon Colin in 1840. His descendants, the Chantecailles, worked for years to enhance the property, which they endowed with a castle and a landscaped park, before selling it to Patrice Pichet in 2010. From one family to another, the reduced game of handovers has therefore certainly made it possible to preserve the spirit and the magic of the place.
