The domain
Located in the heart of the appellation Pessac-Leognan, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the oldest castles in Bordeaux. Nicknamed the "Graves des Graves" for its atypical soil, Château Smith Haut Lafitte was acquired in 1990 by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, with the ambition of raising it to the top of the appellation by magnifying the potential of its unique terroir while perpetuating the tradition of excellence acquired over the centuries.
Classified Grand Cru since 1991, Château Smith Haut Lafitte has a 78-hectare vineyard planted on Günzian gravel soil, giving the wines a unique style whose freshness, structure and great finesse are unanimously appreciated by connoisseurs.
Listening to their terroir and respectful of nature, the teams of the castle have carried out substantial work for 3 years both in the vineyard and within the infrastructures so that each vintage is the most authentic expression of the terroir.
Addition of organic compost, work of the fragile soils using a horse, use of plans from the nursery of the castle, cultivation of the vineyard in line with its philosophy of "bio-precision" .... So many gestures favoring the life of the soil and the preservation of the vineyard.

Tasting: robe pdeep, deep red, almost black. Nose: gourmet, the first nose combines fruity aromas (red fruits, black fruits) with notes of spices and warm herbs. After aeration, the nose gains in amplitude and aromatic richness with notes of black fruit, liquorice, cloves, pencil lead. Palate: ample and of a good length, the mouth deflects its power without austerity. The texture is silky and the tannins enveloping. Structured and precise, the palate harmoniously distils aromas of fruit, liquorice, stones and warm earth. |
