Calon was the name given to the boat used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank of the Garonne to the other. And at the beginning of the 18th century, the Marquis de Ségur, who received the estate on the occasion of his marriage, added his name to it and thus the label of this 3rd grand cru classé of Saint-Estèphe was born. Château Calon Ségur remained in the Capbern-Gasqueton family throughout the 19th century, until 2012, when the property was bought by Suravenir Assurances, which continues to produce wines with an inimitable style bearing the seal of the appellation. Château Calon Ségur has also become famous with its label adorning the bottles of the property. Since the 18th century, the heart has been the symbol of the property and comes to pay homage to this sentence of the Marquis de Ségur: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour but my heart is at Calon". For nearly three centuries, lovers of Château Calon Ségur have continued to remain faithful to this iconic property of the appellation.

All the magic of Calon lies in this balance. The style is carried by a Cabernet Sauvignon which reveals its finesse without arrogance. Elegance is everywhere, in the purity of flavors, in the delicacy of texture. Finally, the depth and length are remarkable. The extraordinary longevity of the wine in the bottle is another characteristic of the estate. The 1947, 1953 or 1982 vintages, for example, show surprising signs of youth.
