Bolgheri Sassicaia - Tenuta San Guido 1997
The Estate
The passion that fuels Tenuta San Guido has developed under the guidance of a good star that encompasses centuries of history. Tradition and culture are the roots of their brand. The estate that is the origin of the famous Sassicaia, the 'Supertuscan' Sassicaia, is now considered the highest expression of Italian winemaking, for the level achieved and its consistent quality, the result of many years of research on a terroir - Bolgheri, on the Maremma coast - and a grape variety, Cabernet Sauvignon, which has made its founder a true pioneer of quality wine production in Italy.

Tasting: a warm and somewhat dry growing season has given rise to a powerful and rich Sassicaia, reminiscent of a smaller-scale 1988. It presents an intense ruby-garnet color and airy, enveloping, and slightly evolved aromas, with notes of tamarind and sour cherry jam, followed by scents of damp earth and a few hints of chocolate-covered cherries. The palate is warm and enveloping, saline, full-bodied, and slightly tannic, while the long finish is somewhat bitter. |
