Sauternes - Chateau d'Yquem 1998 3L (Double Magnum)
The estate
Yquem remains and will remain the greatest and most famous sweet wine in the world. For the past hundred years, this unique Premier Cru Classé Supérieur has stood out from other Bordeaux wines for its exemplary consistency, even in lesser vintages and difficult periods. Under the direction of Pierre Lurton, who is also at the helm of Cheval Blanc, the estate has produced nothing but masterpieces for the past ten years or so, more than ever deserving its status as a legendary wine. The distinctive character of Yquem comes from its unique terroir. Here, botrytis develops as it does nowhere else, producing absolutely wonderful Sauternes with controlled opulence and incredible aging potential that puts it far ahead of all its neighbors. Yes, Yquem is a legend in its own right, and yes, the prices are high. But Yquem is excellence in its purest form: no sweet-wine lover should miss the chance to taste it at least once in their life…
