Sauternes - Chateau d'Yquem 1981 Magnum
The estate
Yquem remains and will remain the greatest and most famous sweet wine in the world. For a hundred years, this unique Premier Cru Classé Supérieur has stood apart from the other wines of Bordeaux thanks to its exemplary consistency, even in lesser vintages and difficult periods. Under the direction of Pierre Lurton, who also heads Cheval Blanc, the estate has produced nothing but great masterpieces for around ten years, more than ever deserving its status as a legendary wine. The distinctive character of Yquem comes from its unique terroir. Here, botrytis develops like nowhere else and produces absolutely wonderful Sauternes, with remarkable opulence, refined restraint and incredible aging potential that puts it far ahead of all its neighbors. Yes, Yquem is a legend in its own right, and yes, the prices are high. But Yquem is excellence in its purest form: no lover of sweet wines should miss the chance to taste it at least once in their life…
