Echézeaux Grand Cru - Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 2022 Magnum

The estate

Here you are in the presence of the most emblematic estate of Burgundy, if not of France! With the monopoly of the two largest vineyards – Romanée-Conti and La Tâche – and a generous collection of vines within Vosne-Romanée and beyond, this property has managed to assert itself while remaining discreet and even modest. It is Aubert de Villaine who has been steering the ship - co-owned by the Villaine and Leroy-Roch families - since 1974. But the origins of Romanée-Conti are much older, dating back to the 13th century, when the first vines were planted by the monks of Saint-Vivant. Organic viticulture was adopted in the 1980s, a prelude to the introduction of biodynamics in the 1990s. It is undoubtedly also the most famous estate in the region for the implementation (since always) of whole cluster fermentation. This well-established technique was set aside by Henri Jayer, but has inspired many other winemakers in recent years.

Producer's note: This is the fastest and least complex wine of all the wines from the Domaine. It opens up before the others and shows a beautiful clarity of expression: a seductive tenderness overlays a firm structure that allows it to evolve with elegance. The little brother of Grands-Echézeaux, it sometimes approaches its style in terms of musculature and power.
