Pauillac - Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1992 Magnum

The domain

The castle Mouton-Rothschild is one of the first three classified growths located in the commune of Pauillac. It produces one of the most prestigious Bordeaux wines, which bears the same name. It shares this rare distinction with Château Margaux, Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion.

Mouton-Rothschild has been owned by the English branch of the Rothschild family since 1853. It is the only cru to be promoted to the rank of “Premier Grand Cru Classé” in 1973 by the Ministry of Agriculture. Following this, the Château's motto was changed from "Premier nepuis, second ne deigne, Mouton suis" to "Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change".

It was in 1922 that the young Baron Philippe de Rothschild took over the management of the Château. A pioneer, he decided in 1924 to carry out the bottling entirely at the property, whereas at the time the wine was sold in bulk to the various merchants in the Bordeaux market place who carried out the bottling themselves. He also asks the illustrator Carlu to create a label for his wine.
