Sauternes - Château Yquem 2011 3L (double Magnum)
The estate
Yquem remains and will remain the greatest and most famous sweet wine in the world. For a hundred years, this unique Premier Cru Classé Supérieur has distinguished itself from other Bordeaux wines by its exemplary consistency, even in lesser vintages and difficult periods. Under the leadership of Pierre Lurton, already at the helm of Cheval Blanc, the estate has only produced great masterpieces for about a decade, deserving more than ever its status as a mythical wine. The uniqueness of Yquem comes from its exceptional terroir. Here, botrytis develops like nowhere else and offers absolutely wonderful Sauternes, with controlled sumptuousness and incredible aging potential that places it far ahead of all its neighbors. Yes, Yquem is a myth in itself and yes, the prices are high. But Yquem is pure excellence: no sweet wine lover should miss the chance to taste it at least once in their life…

Tasting: a blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, the Yquem 2011 presents a pale straw to medium golden color. It takes a little time to bring out its notes of lemon tart, linden flowers, chalk dust, and jasmine, which give way to hints of grated ginger and yuzu zest. The palate sparkles with intense citrus and mineral notes, framed by a refined structure and a viscous texture, finishing with a lingering note of ginger tea. |
