Corton Grand Cru - Domaine de la Romanee-Conti 2009
The estate
In 1879, Jacques-Marie Duvault Blochet bought this estate, which is now owned by Henry-Frédéric Roch, Lalou Bize-Leroy and her director, Aubert de Villaine. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) has 25 hectares of vineyards in Vosne, mainly among the commune’s grand crus: La Tâche, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg, Echézeaux, Grands-Echézeaux and, of course, Romanée-Conti. In the Côte de Beaune, the estate recently acquired a lease to farm three parcels in Corton, in addition to its legendary vineyards in Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet (a small production not sold commercially).
Although Romanée-Conti is the focus of everyone’s attention, the estate’s other grand crus are impeccable, thanks to the work carried out both in the vineyard (managed biodynamically) and in the winery (where whole-cluster vinification is practiced). Yields are extremely low, and some wines, such as Montrachet, are not produced every year because quantities are too small (as was the case in 1992 and 2016). Its price is naturally commensurate with its legendary status.

Tasting: “young ruby red” color; still marked by new oak, pronounced roasted notes, aromas of ripe fruit, with notes of blackberries, plums and rose petals; intense fruit on the palate, very well structured, rich, round and opulent, while remaining elegant; long finish with aromas of red fruit and woody spices. Still young, best enjoyed between 2028 and 2040. |
