Emmanuel Houillon - Pierre Overnoy Arbois-Pupillin 'Cire Blanche' Chardonnay 2017
The estate
The "mythical" Pierre Overnoy took over the family estate in 1968. The Pierre Overnoy estate is located in the small village of Pupillin, situated 3 km south of Arbois in the French Jura, where Pierre Overnoy particularly distinguished himself by vinifying his wines without added sulfur starting in 1984, to the point of becoming an icon of natural wine.
It was the physicist Jules Chauvet, a talented taster and father of the natural wine movement, who inspired him with his sharp approach and introduced him to the winemaking practices he has remained faithful to.

Tasting: dry white, lively and very mineral, with marked acidity and a lot of personality, especially after several years in the bottle. On the palate, the wine is very clean, dry, and spicy; it may seem slightly closed upon opening but reveals marked mineral notes typical of the Pupillin terroir. This type of Chardonnay from Overnoy can age elegantly, developing increased aromatic complexity after several years in the cellar, while maintaining remarkable tension and freshness. |
