Pauillac - Château Latour 1999
The Estate
The history of Château Latour dates back to the 14th century, when the original tower was built on the estate by Gaucelme de Castillon during the Hundred Years' War. Today, the château is owned by François Pinault and his group, Artemis. The 78 hectares of the Latour vineyard, located in the Pauillac appellation, rests on an exceptional, if not extraordinary, terroir strategically located on the banks of the Gironde estuary. It is planted with 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, not to mention Petit Verdot.

Tasting: the medium to deep ruby color is dark, but not quite opaque. It exudes appealing aromas of blackcurrant and cocoa butter, with a lovely fruity freshness. On the palate, bright notes of blackcurrant are first encountered before the abundant tannins take over. The acidity is good and the alcohol warms, but it is balanced by the structure. The length is good and the finish is ample, generous, and well-structured. |
