Pomerol - Pétrus 1973

The estate

By itself, the name Petrus is a legend! Throughout the 19th century, the estate belonged to the Arnaud family (LVMH Group). As early as 1925, a woman from Libourne, Mme Loubat, took shares in the property. About twenty years later, she became its sole owner. Not accepting that Médoc wines sold for more than Pomerol, and particularly hers, she did everything to take advantage of such a promising terroir. In just a few decades, the myth was born. In 1961, Mme Lacoste and Mr. Lignac, niece and nephew of Mme Loubat, inherited the estate. More recently, Jean-Pierre Moueix, a merchant and traditional partner of the Château, bought Mr. Lignac's shares and manages the property with Mme Lacoste.

Format: 75 cl

 Country: France

Region: Bordeaux

Farming: sustainable agriculture

Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc

Tasting: the best Petrus to drink right now among the wines produced in the 70s. Given the super high yield in 1973 and the somewhat diluted quality of many wines, Petrus is super concentrated, rich, smooth, fatty, and so flavorful. My friends tell me it's still a delicious wine.
