Sauternes - Chateau d'Yquem 2008
The estate
Yquem remains, and will remain, the world's greatest and most famous sweet wine. For a hundred years, this one-of-a-kind Premier Cru Classé Supérieur has stood apart from other Bordeaux wines with its exemplary consistency, even in small vintages and difficult periods. Under the direction of Pierre Lurton, who also heads Cheval Blanc, the estate has produced nothing but great masterpieces for about a decade, more than ever deserving its status as a legendary wine. The distinctive character of Yquem comes from its unique terroir. Here, botrytis develops as nowhere else and produces absolutely wonderful Sauternes, with masterful opulence and incredible aging potential that puts it far ahead of all its neighbors. Yes, Yquem is a legend in its own right, and yes, the prices are high. But Yquem is excellence in its purest form: no sweet-wine lover should miss the chance to taste it at least once in their life…
