Truth Assortment: Desire, Joy, The Muse - Sonoma County (USA) 2015

The domain

Very rare case with 3 vintages!

Sonoma County, California, is theone of the most important wine growing regions in the entire United States. Vines have been planted there since the 1850s and, aside from the inevitable interruption due to Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and uninterrupted.

Wine-wise, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma, and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.

Sonoma Valley is located in the southeast corner of the county, and effectively mirrors the shape and orientation of the Napa Valley just on the other side of the Mayacamas Mountains. It encompasses Bennett Valley, Sonoma Mountain and the western half of Carneros – arguably the best cool-climate terroir in California. Sonoma Valley's climate is known for its cooling fog, which rolls in from San Pablo Bay during the summer months. Wedged between the Sonoma and Mayacamas mountains, the fog there is significantly denser and more persistent than in the wider valleys to the north. Combined with cooling ocean breezes, this means Sonoma Valley is cool and sunny enough to produce bright, intensely flavored wines.

Tasting - vintage 2015

Desire stands out for its structure and precision. It presents a nice balance between suppleness and firmness: a ferruginous, rocky minerality and aromas of leather and tobacco, as well as aromas of red fruits which are expressed clearly.

Joy : wrapped and structured, La Joie presents a bouquet dominated by vegetal aromas of mint, sage and lavender. Its aromas of blackcurrant, ripe cherry and damson are characteristic of New World wines, while its lingering finish and fine tannins pay homage to the Old World.

The Muse presents a ruby color and a brilliant purple fringe. A clean, fresh bouquet reminiscent of Northern California wildflowers, along with aromas of violets growing in stony soils.
