Cult winemaker, Jean-François Ganevat produces with his sister Anne the most Burgundy wines of the Jura!

Jean-François Ganevat is a renowned, low-intervention wine producer based in the commune of Rotalier (more precisely in the hamlet of La Combe de Rotalier), in the mountainous wine-growing region of Jura, in east of France. The estate has been family owned since 1650. It is currently managed by Jean-François Ganevat, who trained and worked at Domaine Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet.

Ganevat produces 1,700 cases per year, composed of 35 to 40 different vintages which aim to highlight the terroir, the grape variety or the style of winemaking. The 8.5 hectare estate is certified biodynamic and planted with 17 different local red and white grape varieties, including outlaw varieties like Petit Béclan, Gros Béclan, Gueuche, Seyve-Villard, Corbeau, the Portuguese Blue, the Enfariné, the Argent and the Poulsard Blanc.

The estate produces single-varietal AOP Côtes du Jura wines from fruit grown on site, but it also sources grapes from Alsace, Savoie and Beaujolais to produce vintages with the Vin de France appellation. These vintages, blended with grapes purchased and grown at the estate, allow the winemaker to use all native grape varieties and to produce unique, although downgraded, wines.

Jean-François uses ancient and personalized winemaking techniques . He destemmes by hand, uses no new oak, ages white wines on lees for at least two years, and in 2006 completely eradicated the use of sulfur.

Its unique and extensive portfolio of wines includes Vin Jaune, Macvin du Jura and Crémant du Jura.
