The domain

The wine estate and the "Ochsen" in Malans belong to the Donatsch family for over 100 years. The philosophy of the family business is to produce honest wines typical of the terroir. “For five generations, we have lived for wine. Always ahead of trends, we have always remained faithful to culture and tradition.”

The Donatsch estate operates 6 hectares of vines, spread over different plots with evocative names such as "Frassa", "Halde", "Bovel", "Selvenen", "Spiger" or "Michel". The maintenance of the vines is done as close as possible to nature. Thus, we have been grassing our soils for three generations already, we use fertilizers purely organic and we respect the strict guidelines for required ecological services (PER) for phytosanitary protection. It is important to us to maintain the vineyards so that they remain healthy and of quality for future generations. After a long experience, each plot is now planted with the grape varieties best suited to the terroir, which makes it possible to produce high quality, long-lasting local wines. Burgundian grape varieties flourish particularly well on the limestone scree cones of the Bündner Herrschaft. The Bündner Herrschaft is one of the best Pinot regions in the world. The main grape varieties of the Donatsch estate are therefore pinot noir, pinot blanc and chardonnay. But the very old native grape variety Completer feels particularly good in the mild climate of Malans and is gaining more and more importance.

In 2010, Martin Donatsch won it “World Champion Prize for Pinot Noir Producers” at the Mondial du Pinot Noir. The following year, in 2011, he was even able to defend this important title of “world champion of pinot noir”! But his goals and dreams are far from being realized... he wants to show the world that world-class wines grow in Switzerland. A lifetime for wine...
