Echezeaux Grand Cru - Domaine d'Eugenie 2017

The domain

The Domain of Eugenie is a producer of Burgundy wines, Vosne-Romanée, known for its Pinot Noir. It was created in 2006 from the renowned vineyards of Domaine René Engel, after the death of its owner, Philippe Engel, which included plots of premier and grand cru. François Pinault, owner of Château Latour, bought the vineyards but not the cellar.

After Engel's death in May 2005, the 2005 vintage of Domaine René Engel was sold in bulk. After acquiring the vineyards, Domaine D'Eugénie operated in a temporary space at Domaine Lupé-Cholet in Nuits-Saint-Georges for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 vintages.

In the meantime, D'Eugénie has established her own cellar in Vosne-Romanée, on the former vineyard and buildings of Clos Frantin. These previously belonged to the Albert Bichot wine estate, based in Beaune. Bichot has retained the Clos Frantin brand.

D'Eugénie modernized all the facilities and renamed the monopoly vineyard Clos d'Eugénie.

The estate operates 6.5 hectares of Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot and Flagey-Échezeaux. It produces 6 wines in 5 appellations: the grands crus Échezeaux, Grands Échezeaux and Clos-Vougeot, the premier cru Aux Brûlées and Vosne-Romanée Villages. In 2009, several plots of vines began to convert to biodynamics.

Format : 75 cl

 Country: France

Region: Burgundy

Cultivation: biodynamic conversion

Grape: Pinot Noir

Tasting: More masculine than Grands-Echezeaux, Les Echezeaux appear a little stricter. The wines present an aromatic palette marked by black fruits, supported by a very fine tannic structure. Powerful balance fits beautifully throughout the length of this wine.
