Echezeaux Les Loachausses Grand Cru - Domaine Anne Gros 2014

The domain

The Domaine Anne Gros is a wine producer based in the village of Vosne-Romanée, in the Côte de Nuits sub-region of the Côte d'Or in Burgundy. The estate produces a range of wines from local and neighboring appellations through the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties.

The estate has a total of 6.5 hectares spread over nine appellations, including parcels in the Grand Cru vineyards of Clos Vougeot, Echezeaux and Richebourg. Anne Gros also produces Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny village wines, as well as generic Burgundy red and Burgundy white wines.

The vines are cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics. The red grapes are vinified in cement vats coated with epoxy, the whites in stainless steel.

Aging in barrels generally lasts about 16 months with 80% new oak for the grands crus, 50% for village wines and 30% for regional wines. The Bourgogne blanc is aged for 12 months in large oak barrels (500 litres), of which around 3% are new oak.

Anne Gros is part of a large family of winemakers in the region and joined her father François at the family estate in 1988. The estate was named Domaine Anne et François Gros until 1995 and is now simply Domaine Anne Gros.

Echezeaux

Jules Gros patiently acquired several plots in the locality The Loachusses to constitute a monopoly of 3 hectares between 1910 and 1930.

Planted by Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur in 1988, this plot of 0ha76 at a place called Les Loachausses (the origin of the name would come from a plant of wet ground) joined the Domaine in 2007 at the end of a lease of 25 years.

It is a brown, deep and stony ground with even some small fossils! Due to its location at the bottom of the hill, its north/south exposure, it is a very early plot.

The wine is delicate, greedy, with very ripe tannins. As it ages, it can take on tones of violets and peppers.

It is always a joyful, sensual wine with roundness. It is suitable for all kinds of stewed meats and not too spicy curries. Ageing: in barrels (30% new).
