Pauillac - Château Duhart-Milon 2000

The estate

Undoubtedly the most impressive estate of the appellation, and Fourth Grand Cru Classé, Château Duhart-Milon is associated with a renaissance, still quite recent. In the early 18th century, the commune of Pauillac was covered with vines, the fruit of which would later become the second wine of Château Lafite, Château Duhart-Milon. After a few centuries and a succession of owners, the château came under the wing of the Rothschild family. From the 1960s, under their influence, the château began a major renewal phase, achieving a quality level that corresponds once again to its rank of Fourth Grand Cru Classé. Year after year, the estate offers wines considered a model of Pauillac. Its largest parcel crowns the hillside of Milon, slightly west of Château Lafite Rothschild on its plateau of Carruades, also owned by the same family. Its two wines with a traditional profile receive the same meticulous care as those of Lafite. Its great wine, a reliable value, Château Duhart-Milon coexists with the second wine, Moulin de Duhart, which comes from younger vines.

Format: 75 cl

 Country: France

Region: Bordeaux

Farming: conventional agriculture

Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

Tasting: an exceptional Duhart, certainly one of the best produced in this estate since 1996, 1986, and 1982! This blend of 80.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19.5% Merlot reveals a deep ruby-purple color as well as notes of pencil lead mixed with aromas of wet stones, blackcurrant, and a certain vegetal note. Medium to full-bodied, ripe and dense, yet well-structured, with considerable tannins, it will require patience. For those who are willing to wait, it will be one of the great wines of this vintage.
