Pauillac - Château Mouton Rothschild 2009
The estate
The Château Mouton-Rothschild is one of the three first classified growths located in the municipality of Pauillac. It produces one of the most prestigious Bordeaux wines, which bears the same name. It shares this rare distinction with Château Margaux, Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild, and Château Haut-Brion.
Mouton-Rothschild has been owned by the English branch of the Rothschild family since 1853. It is the only estate that was promoted to the rank of 'Premier Grand Cru classé' in 1973 by the Ministry of Agriculture. Following this, the Château's motto was changed from 'Premier ne puis, second ne daigne, Mouton suis' to 'Premier je suis, second je fus, Mouton ne change'.
It was in 1922 that the young Baron Philippe de Rothschild took the helm of the Château. A pioneer, he decided in 1924 to carry out the bottling entirely on the property, whereas at the time the wine was sold in bulk to various merchants in the Bordeaux market who bottled it themselves. He also asked the illustrator Carlu to create a label for his wine.

Tasting: deep, the color reveals a dark hue almost black, adorned with violet reflections. Complex and aromatic, the nose blends fruity aromas (blueberry, blackcurrant) and spicy notes with hints of cedar and blonde tobacco. Dense and delicate, the palate exhales fruity notes harmoniously combined with enveloping tannins. Structured and balanced, the palate stretches its aromatic palette to a finish of great length. |
