Saint-Émilion Grand Cru - Château Pavie 2014

The estate

Owned by Gérard Perse since 1997, the prestigious château Pavie has been a Premier Grand Cru classé A of St Emilion since 2012 (previously classified B), alongside the stars Ausone, Angélus, and Cheval Blanc. Located 35km east of Bordeaux (Dordogne right bank), it is the neighbor of the estates La Gaffelière, Larcis Ducasse and Pavie Decesse to name just a few. The vines of the chateau Pavie, averaging 43 years old, extend over 37 hectares with three distinct terroirs: the plateau (limestone), the slope (clay-limestone), and the foot of the slope (sandy-clay). The density of the vines, cultivated in sustainable agriculture, is 5,800 plants/ha, and the grape variety is as follows: merlot (65%), cabernet franc (25%), Cabernet sauvignon (10%).

Format: 75 cl

 Country: France

Region: Bordeaux

Cultivation: sustainable agriculture

Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc

Tasting: True to its style, this Pavie wine has a dark, purplish hue, opaque like ink, with intense ruby reflections, the colored tears of a pretty pink are slow and massive.
The aromatic range develops aromas of black fruit compote, a mix of blackcurrant, blackberries, and blueberries, all associated with a fresh notion and a vintage in restraint.
There is still some personality.
The attack on the palate is frank, powerful, the tannins assert themselves, are firm, dominate, the texture is well in place, but it is a certain austerity that predominates.
Finish with a slight dryness, robustness.
A vintage that is more reserved than demonstrative. Beautiful potential, from a Pavie that will allow you to enjoy it in a small decade.
