Saint-Émilion Grand Cru - Château Pavie 2019
The Estate
Owned by Gérard Perse since 1997, the prestigious Château Pavie has been a Premier Grand Cru Classé A of St-Émilion since 2012 (previously classified B), alongside the stars Ausone, Angélus, and Cheval Blanc. Located 35km east of Bordeaux (Dordogne right bank), it is neighbors with the estates La Gaffelière, Larcis Ducasse, and Pavie Decesse, to name a few.
The vines of Château Pavie, with an average age of 43 years, extend over 37 hectares with three distinct terroirs: the plateau (limestone), the slope (clay-limestone), and the foot of the slope (sandy-clay). The density of the vines, cultivated using sustainable agriculture, is 5,800 plants/ha, and the grape varieties are as follows: Merlot (65%), Cabernet Franc (25%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%).
Format: 75 cl | Country: France | |
| Region: Bordeaux | Farming: sustainable agriculture | |
| Grape Varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon | Tasting: with a beautiful dark and intense color, this wine reveals a bouquet with aromas of flowers, crushed stones, black cherry, blackberry, espresso, and cigar box. It is of intense concentration, opulent, fresh, and, above all, balanced. Everything harmonizes perfectly. Rich and enveloping, the fruit shows purity and offers mineral and salty notes. The finish develops and blossoms in all the right directions. 2019 is the first vintage where Merlot does not dominate the blend. Like all great vintages of Pavie, this wine needs time to age and evolve. Best enjoyed between 2035 and 2060. | |
