Grand Cru Extra Brut - Lieux-dits "Les Carelles" Le Mesnil Sur Oger - Jacques Selosse

The Estate

The estate was founded in 1949 in Avize by Jacques Selosse. Taken over in 1974 by his 20-year-old son Anselme, it produces high-quality Champagne in an artisanal manner, with respect for the vines. Every year, 57,000 bottles leave the estate. Production quantities are therefore limited, making these cuvées rare and highly sought-after. Covering 7.5 hectares, the estate comprises 47 parcels, located mainly in the Côte des Blancs. Since Anselme took over its management, several changes have taken place, particularly regarding yields and viticultural methods. An environmentalist at heart, he decided to favor low yields. He adopted organic viticulture without seeking any certification. This allows him to stand out from other houses and offer exceptional wines.

Located in the commune of Mesnil-sur-Oger, a 100% Grand Cru village, the name of the lieu-dit “Les Carelles” actually comes from the chalk slabs of a nearby quarry. Facing due east on very chalky limestone slopes, the parcels benefit from the morning sun.
