Margaux - Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry 2014

The domain

In 1697, Louise Escousses will sell the property to Master Simon Malescot, adviser to King Louis XIV to the Parliament of Bordeaux. He will give his surname to the castle. On February 5, 1827, Count Jean-Baptiste de Saint-Exupéry acquired Château Malescot. Great-grandfather of the aviator and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, he decided to enrich the name of the castle with his name. An expensive lifestyle led Jean-Baptiste's widow to auction off her property in 1853.

It was in 1870 that Messrs. Fourcade and Boissac gave the great wine of Malescot a château worthy of its rank and cellars, which would serve as a model for other Médoc châteaux. They will nevertheless have to resolve to sell in 1901. A period marked by the uncertainties of a succession of owners follows the stability of yesteryear.

On June 1, 1955, Paul and Roger Zuger acquired the estate, which only had 7 hectares of vines left. Today the property has 28 hectares in the Margaux appellation. Three generations of Zuger follow one another to refloat and restore its reputation. It was therefore in 1994 that Jean-Luc took over from his father Roger. Today, Catherine and Jean-Luc Zuger are the owners. Jean-Luc, manager, makes every effort to make Malescot Saint-Exupéry one of the Grands Crus of the Margaux appellation.
