The estate

Domaine Roulot, founded by Guillaume Roulot in 1830, is a highly respected estate based in Meursault that primarily produces Chardonnay wines from a range of premier cru and village sites across the appellation. The wines are held in high regard by critics and are highly sought after. The estate is currently run by actor-turned-winemaker Jean-Marc Roulot.

Roulot owns numerous holdings in Meursault’s premier crus, including 0.28 hectares in Charmes, 0.26 hectares in Perrières, and 0.16 hectares in Les Bouchères, as well as 0.2 hectares in the neighboring premier cru of Monthélie, Les Champs Fulliots.

Another four hectares cover village vineyards in Meursault, such as Les Luchets and Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir—a wine strongly associated with the Roulot label.

All the wines are based on Chardonnay, although the estate also produces an Aligoté, a Bourgogne Blanc and Rouge, an Auxey-Duresses Premier Cru, and a village red. The red wines are made from Pinot Noir, Burgundy’s principal red grape variety.

Domaine Roulot established itself among the top producers of white Burgundy under the direction of the late Guy Roulot. Guy was one of the first producers in the region to bottle individual vineyards separately, including village lieu-dits.

He died in 1982, and his son Jean-Marc took over in 1989, cultivating the vineyards organically.

In addition to producing wine, Jean-Marc Roulot is also known for his film appearances (he initially studied cinema in Paris), notably in the Burgundian film Ce qui nous lie (released as "Back to Burgundy" for English-speaking audiences), part of which was filmed at the estate.
