Pessac-Léognan - Château Haut-Brion Blanc 2018

The Estate

Among the four properties classified as Premier Cru in the famous 1855 classification, Château Haut-Brion stands out as it is the only one located outside of the Médoc. The vineyard's history is very old, even older than that of its counterparts listed as Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc. This uniqueness makes it the true idol of the Graves. Located on the southwestern outskirts of the city center of Bordeaux, the property, covering an area of 51 hectares, is part of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

Its vineyard is predominantly planted with red grape varieties, with only three hectares dedicated to Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, which form the basis of its lightly oaked whites. The property is currently owned by the same owners as Château La Mission Haut-Brion and La Tour Haut-Brion. At the head of the estate, Prince Robert Dillon of Luxembourg represents the Dillon family. Compared to larger Premier Crus in terms of area, the production of Château Haut-Brion is relatively low, but its red and white wines are magnificent. Its second wine, Le Clarence de Haut-Brion, competes with the exquisite Grand Vin de Haut-Brion, which has a high proportion of Merlot. The Château also offers a Haut-Brion Blanc, fermented in barrel, as well as a second white, sourced from the vineyards of Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion, named La Clarté de Haut-Brion.
