Pessac-Leognan - Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2015
The domain
In 1584, Jean de Pontac, Lord of Haut-Brion, donated several acres of meadows and vineyards to the Carmelite Order. Favor, no doubt, has the taste of predestinations: the members of the congregation in fact take their name from Mount Carmel, literally “vineyard of God”. They will watch over the land for nearly two centuries, practicing asceticism and making wine with the same devotion.
Confiscated during the Revolution, the estate was purchased by Léon Colin in 1840. His descendants, the Chantecailles, worked for years to enhance the property, which they added a castle and a landscaped park, before selling it to Patrice Pichet in 2010. From one family to another, the reduced handover process has certainly made it possible to preserve the spirit and magic of the place.

Tasting: Dark ruby red, youthful radiance. What a nose, it's incredibly deep and complex, like Burgundy, finely spiced with black fruits, blueberries, blackberries, black cherries, as well as a hint of peach, floral aromas, violet , pepper and plum. On the palate, a mouth full of wine, a creamy texture, super fine tannins, the wine has a lot of melting, classy and, despite a rather hot year, a lot of freshness, it has a lot of precision, is already surprisingly accessible , but has reserves for many years. Tasting now (decanting) and until 2050. |
