Pomerol - Château la Fleur-Pétrus 2001
The estate
The Château La Fleur-Pétrus is one of the most renowned vineyards in Pomerol. This historic estate, located exclusively on the plateau, was named in the 18th century due to its location between the localities "Pétrus" and "La Fleur". Established in Libourne since 1937, Jean-Pierre Moueix recognized the excellent quality of the Pomerol appellation early on. Château La Fleur-Pétrus was his very first acquisition in 1950. Shortly after, he purchased Château Trotanoy in 1953. The personality of Château La Fleur-Pétrus lies in the judicious combination of the famous gravelly and clayey soils of the Pomerol plateau. The vineyard, situated between 33 and 38 meters in altitude, derives its identity from the nuances of soil and altitude of each plot. The plots with a predominance of gravel generally produce wines of great elegance, while those with a predominance of clay are distinctly more velvety, dense, and structured.
