Romanée-Conti - Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 2020

The estate

Here you are in the presence of the most emblematic estate in Burgundy, if not in France! With the monopoly of the two greatest vineyards – Romanée-Conti and La Tâche – and a generous collection of vines within Vosne-Romanée and beyond, this property has managed to assert itself while remaining discreet and even modest. It is Aubert de Villaine who has been steering the ship - co-owned by the Villaine and Leroy-Roch families - since 1974. But the origins of Romanée-Conti are much older, dating back to the 13th century, when the first vines were planted by the monks of Saint-Vivant. Organic viticulture was adopted in the 1980s, a prelude to the introduction of biodynamics in the 1990s. It is undoubtedly also the most famous estate in the region for the implementation (since always) of whole cluster fermentation. This well-established technique was set aside by Henri Jayer, but has inspired many other winemakers in recent years.

Format: 75 cl

 Country: France

Region: Burgundy

Culture: biodynamics 🌱

Grape variety: Pinot Noir

Tasting: the Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 2020 is a wine of great grace and great purity. It unfolds in the glass with aromas of raspberries and blackberries mingled with sweet spices, violets, peonies, and a subtle hint of wintergreen; it is full-bodied, broad, and silky, with exceptional concentration and a smooth, homogeneous, and layered profile that glides over the palate. It is intensely flavorful like La Tâche, more muscular and broader-shouldered, but it is more elegant and sensual.
