Saint-Émilion Grand Cru - Château Angelus 1999

The estate

Angélus is certainly one of the châteaux that has progressed the most over the past 30 years. This meteoric rise earned it, during the revision of the classification of Saint-Émilion in 1996, the rank of Premier Grand Cru classé B. A bold marriage of grape varieties, with a large proportion of cabernet franc, a creaminess, a purity, and a rare elegance. This is, in a few words, what defines the style of this legendary château. In 2012, it joined with the new classification the iconic Château Cheval Blanc and Château Ausone. It thus entered the very select elite of the Saint-Emilion appellation with the rank of Premier Grand Cru classé A. Moreover, to celebrate its rise among the greatest, the 2012 vintage was dressed in a uniquely designed bottle, with black and gold silk-screen printing.

The vineyard of Angélus is located in the heart of a natural amphitheater, dominated by three churches. And in this space blessed by the gods, one could hear the bells of these 3 churches ringing… the Angelus. The name was found; it was at the end of the 18th century that the family de Boüard de Laforest settled in Saint-Emilion. At the beginning of the 20th century, Maurice de Boüard de Laforest inherited the estate. He expanded it by adding, in particular, in 1920, an enclosure of three hectares, named Angélus.

Today, the Chief Executive Officer of Angélus, Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, represents the 8th generation of the family de Boüard de Laforest, and now embodies Angélus. It is her responsibility to continue the work of her father, her grandfather, and her ancestors with the sole objective of continuing to grow Angélus.
